Smithereens
A few steps below 9th Street you'll find Smithereens, a subterranean gem where classic New England tavern fare enjoys a refined and modern glow-up.
Chef Nick Tamburo (formerly of Claud) is at the helm of this ship, with Beverage Director Nikita Malhotra (formerly of Momofuku Ko) at his side, crafting a dining experience that is equal parts intimate, intriguing, and indulgent. Expect comfort cooking shrouded in a touch of mystery, a lobster roll poached to perfection, and cocktails that surprise and delight. Try the Ben Affleck for a caffeine-infused pick me up!
The Ian Chapin-designed space features an open kitchen serving as its beating heart, flanked by a lively front dining room and a tucked-away, semi-private space near the wine cellar in the back that seats up to 13 guests. Our recommendation: Try to snag a spot at the chef’s counter where you can watch the action unfold. And if fortune favors you, you just might find yourself capping off the night with a shot of Faccio Brutto’s Centerbe, poured by GM Nathan Zabala himself.
